Leona is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, as well as a professional member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP). She attained her Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University and her Honors Bachelors of Health Science Degree with a double major in Health Science and Psychology from the University of Western Ontario.
As part of her MACP, Leona completed her practicum at a clinical private practice in the Middle East, where she worked with culturally diverse adolescent and adult populations, individually and in groups. Her goal is to provide an empathetic, safe and non-judgemental environment for clients to be heard and understood, focusing on empowerment, and providing tools and knowledge to overcome relationship difficulties, low self esteem, parenting struggles, depression and anxiety using strength based approaches.
Her therapeutic approach is multi-faceted utilizing CBT as well as a Person Centered Therapy, while incorporating various techniques such as motivational interviewing, acceptance, mindfulness and assertiveness training, adapted to client needs.
In addition, Leona has extensive experience as an ABA therapist supporting parents and teachers with understanding, dealing with and implementing behavioural plans. She also has experience with and has contributed to experience-based co-design (EBCD) with parents and children as well as reformatting child treatment manuals at Credit Valley Hospital.
