Zahra Halfal, M.A. MFT

Zahra is a Registered Psychotherapist - Qualifying (RP-Q) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, as well as a professional member in good standing with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She obtained her Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from Argosy University in Minnesota, USA.

As part of her M.A. MFT program, Zahra completed her practicum at a clinical agency in London, Ontario, where she worked with individuals, couples, and families, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults providing ongoing psychotherapy. Zahra also co-led a couples communication group to enhance couple connection, and also participated in the walk-in counselling program, providing single session therapy. Zahra aims to empower clients and help with issues related to mental health (depression, anxiety), chemical dependency, trauma, grief, workplace conflict/stress, couple/family/parenting issues, and stressful life changes/transitions to facilitate hope and healing for all her clients. She hopes to elicit her clients’ strengths, highlighting their unique life narrative to move them towards new meaning and lasting positive change.

Additionally, Zahra has experience with crisis counselling, conducting risk assessments and safety planning with vulnerable populations.

Her therapeutic approach integrates Narrative therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused therapy, as well as Solution Focused and Structural Family Therapy techniques. Zahra is trained in systems theory and utilizes systemic and attachment concepts in her work. She is also certified in the Prepare/Enrich program to promote pre-marital and marital enhancement between partners.

Zahra is able to provide counselling services in English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Urdu.
